The Ridgeway Spark arrestor was often known to railfans as the Bear Trap Spark Arrestor. When these locomotives were built, they were the most powerful locomotives on the DL&G and they were well suited to the mountain grades and tight curves of the Colorado Narrow Gauge.Įight locomotives were built in total and were numbered #266 - 273 and they worked on the Denver, Leadville & Gunnison Railway. The B4D 2-8-0's were constructed by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in November 1890 to tackle the rails along Clear Creek.
